Em uma relação de contraste, procurei mostrar como às representações sobre leitura, delineadas pela tradição letrada, são atribuídos valores e aparatos, concretos e simbólicos que restringem a prática da leitura a determinada classe social. Depois, verifiquei, em espaços públicos, que há outras formas de se ler e procurei saber quais oS principais fatores intervenientes na constituição dessas leituras pouco consideradas culturalmente. Tentando compreender, mais profundamente, como se dão os modos difusos de leitura em sociedade, visitei dez salas de espera de dentistas e médicos, diversificados geográfica e socialmente e entrevistei as recepcionistas e/ou pessoas responsáveis pela escolha dos componentes de leitura ali encontrados. Tomei como hipótese que ali encontraria apenas leitura de entretenimento e que os objetos de leitura oferecidos seriam Caras, Contigos e Vejas antigas. No entanto, os resultados mostraram que além da leitura esperada há uma outra decorrente de singularidades e de afinidades eletivas e a que a motivação de se ler, em salas de espera, nem sempre é a distração.In order to in incorporate in the guideline of the debate on reading the matter of diversity of the objects and manners of reading in society, this thesis sought to reveal a public reading space less considered by prestigious culture: medical and odontological waiting rooms of Sorocaba. In a contrasting relation, it is shown how the reading representations, delineated by literate tradition, are attributed values and apparatus, concrete and abstract, that restrict the reading practice to a specific social level. Afterwards, I verified, in public spaces, that there are other forms of reading of and I searched for the main intervenient factors in the constitution of these culturally less considered readings. In order to deeply understand how diffuse reading manner in society take place, ten medicine doctors and odontologists, geographically and socially diversified were visited and their receptionists and/ or people responsible for reading choices were interviewed. The proposed hypothesis considered that there would be only entertainment reading and that the offered objects of reading would be Caras, Contigo and old editions of Veja. Nevertheless, the results showed that besides the expected reading there is an additional one, originated by the singularities and idiosyncratic and elective affinities.
