As medidas terapêuticas convencionais são demoradas e em grande parte sem sucesso. O tendão cicatrizado possui alto risco de reinjúria, já que a cicatriz é funcionalmente deficiente e caracterizada por menor resistência, elasticidade reduzida e rigidez aumentada. Este trabalho tem como objetivo reunir evidências relevantes da literatura sobre a atuação das células tronco mesenquimais no tratamento da doença. A partir de referências obtidas em base de dados científicas, este trabalho descreve o panorama geral dos resultados obtidos com tratamento convencional e avanços em terapia celular para o problema da tendinite em equinos. Seis artigos publicados ao longo da última década são apresentados destacando-se as características do estudo, detalhes do tratamento com células tronco e os resultados obtidos. De um modo geral, os casos estudados mostram um potencial promissor com o uso das células-tronco mesenquimais adiposas para tratamento de tendinites em equinos, apresentando resultados de cura superiores ao tratamento convencional isolado.Tendinitis due to overexertion is a common disease in working horses that practice sports or work in agriculture. Conventional therapeutic measures are timeconsuming and largely unsuccessful. The healed tendon has a high risk of reinjury, since the scar is functionally deficient and characterized by less resistance, reduced elasticity and increased rigidity.This work aims to gather relevant evidence from the literature on the role of mesenchymal stem cells in the treatment of the disease. Based on references obtained from scientific databases, this work describes the general panorama of the results obtained with conventional treatment and advances in cell therapy for the problem of tendinitis in horses. Six articles published over the last decade are presented highlighting the characteristics of the study, details of the treatment with stem cells and the results obtained.
