Para o desenvolvimento deste trabalho, foi realizado um levantamento bibliográfico sobre a temática envolvendo a política higienista, as características dos chamados “anormais sociais” e o resgate da história da instituição hospitalar psiquiátrica em questão. Além disso, foram empregadas o uso de outras fontes, como o material fotográfico organizado pelo fotógrafo Luiz Alfredo, repórter José Franco e pela jornalista Daniela Arbex, documentários, periódicos e demais materiais publicados sobre o tema. Assim, por meio de uma apresentação panorâmica, pretende-se tecer um diálogo entre as intervenções urbanas e a mentalidade da época a respeito da figura do “louco-criminoso”.This work aims to analyze the influence of discourses promoted by the medical and legal sectors in the establishment of policies and forms of treatment used within the Psychiatric Hospital of Barbacena, the "Colônia".
