Consiste em maus-tratos emocionais, físicos, econômicos e sexuais que afetam a saúde e o bem-estar geral de uma criança e/ou adolescente. O objetivo deste estudo é mostrar ao cirurgião-dentista a sua responsabilidade em reconhecer casos dessa origem, pois muitas das lesões encontradas situam-se na região da boca, face e pescoço, e mediante a confirmação ou suspeita de maus-tratos e abuso infantil, orientá-los sobre como notificar às autoridades competentes. Essas informações foram extraídas por meio de análise e revisão de literatura, leitura de artigos e da legislação para reforçar e informar aos profissionais cirurgiões-dentistas e graduandos o seu papel e obrigação diante de casos de abuso infantil. Os resultados e conclusões mostram a importância em salientar esse assunto durante a graduação e sensibilizar os futuros profissionais como sociedade para mudar o futuro de vidas indefesas que não podem lutar por si.Child abuse is a frequent phenomenon characterized by acts and omissions of care for individuals under eighteen years old. It consists of emotional, physical, economic, and sexual abuse that affects the health and general well-being of a child and / or adolescent. The objective of this study is to show the dentist your responsibility to recognize cases of this origin, since many of the lesions found are located in the mouth, face and neck region, and upon confirmation or suspicion of mistreatment and child abuse, guide them on how to notify the competent authorities.
