Portanto o texto percorre, em forma de narrativa, parte da história da cidade no que se refere aos sujeitos de estudo. Também, são abordadas as relações estabelecidas entre o esporte e a educação física escolar, sua situação a partir da realidade enfrentada pelos professores. Entrevistas com profissionais da área, muito enriqueceram o trabalho. Nesse estudo percebe-se uma forte influência do esporte na educação física, levando a reflexão das diversas possibilidades educativas atribuídas à ele.This work aims at investigating the institucionalization of the Physical Education and sports in Sorocaba. It rescues and analyzes the documental and oral memory related to school physical education and to sports starting from the available collection, as well as, the rebuilding of its function considering the live memory of the protagonists. Therefore, the text presents in a narrative form, parts of the history of the city in what refers to the subject of the study. This study is also concerned with the established relationships between sports and the school physical education and its reality in the teachers’ view. This work was quite enriched with the interviews taken with the professionals of the area.
