A pergunta que norteia esta pesquisa assim se configura: como o metaverso é apresentado nas produções acadêmicas, tomando-se por base a produção científica publicada no período de 2008 a 2022? O objetivo geral deste trabalho é o de contribuir com um estado da questão sobre o metaverso na área da Comunicação e os objetivos específicos consistem em apresentar uma base teórica que sustente essa tecnologia; identificar as produções científicas sobre metaverso presentes no banco de periódicos, dissertações e teses da Capes circunscritos no período em questão; organizar e descrever os resultados obtidos, destacando o tema das pesquisas. A relevância desse estudo consiste em trazer para estudiosos do metaverso, sobretudo os da área da comunicação, um mapeamento da produção científica sobre o tema, de modo a permitir a compreensão de como o metaverso permeia as pesquisas dessa área e, de certo modo, destacar os alcances e limites.This research focuses on the metaverse, a network of interconnected virtual environments where users can interact in real time through digital avatars. The guiding question of this research is: How is the metaverse presented in academic productions, based on scientific publications from 2008 to 2022? The general objective of this work is to contribute to a state of the art on the metaverse in the field of Communication. The specific objectives are to present a theoretical foundation that supports this technology; to identify the scientific productions on the metaverse available in the database of journals, dissertations, and theses from Capes within the specified period; and to organize and describe the results obtained, highlighting the research themes.
