A importância do cirurgião-dentista no diagnóstico de bulimia

| dc.description.abstract | Com a busca pelo padrão de beleza imposto pela sociedade nos dias atuais, vários tipos de transtornos alimentares têm sido constatados. Entre eles pode-se citar a bulimia nervosa, conhecida como uma síndrome em que o paciente busca incansavelmente pela magreza e ao mesmo tempo pelo desejo compulsivo de se alimentar, seguido por um sentimento de culpa, vergonha e arrependimento. É um transtorno caracterizado por episódios em que o paciente se alimenta compulsivamente e logo em seguida induz o próprio vômito. Muitas vezes o paciente com essa síndrome, abusa do uso de laxantes e de atividades físicas, como uma forma de evitar o ganho de peso. O objetivo deste trabalho de revisão de literatura é mostrar que o cirurgião dentista pode ser o primeiro profissional a identificar a síndrome da bulimia nervosa, pois esse transtorno afeta a saúde bucal do paciente com sinais e sintomas característicos de erosão dental, xerostomia, cárie, doenças periodontais e traumas na mucosa que podem auxiliar o profissional no diagnóstico dessa patologia. Conclui-se que pacientes com transtorno de bulimia nervosa necessitam de um tratamento multiprofissional com médicos, nutricionistas, psicólogos e também com o cirurgião-dentista, para que este, além de auxiliar no diagnóstico dos pacientes com essa síndrome, possa planejar e executar o tratamento reabilitador da cavidade bucal, melhorando a função mastigatória e a qualidade de vida desses pacientes. | pt |
| dc.description.abstract | With the search for the standard of beauty imposed by society today, several types of eating disorders have been observed. Among them we can mention bulimia nervosa, known as a syndrome in which the patient tirelessly seeks thinness and at the same time the compulsive desire to eat, followed by a feeling of guilt, shame and regret. It is a disorder characterized by episodes in which the patient eats compulsively and then immediately induces vomiting itself. Often the patient with this syndrome abuses the use of laxatives and physical activities, as a way to prevent weight gain. The purpose of this literature review is to show that the dental surgeon can be the first professional to identify bulimia nervosa syndrome, as this disorder affects the patient's oral health with characteristic signs and symptoms of dental erosion, dry mouth, caries, diseases periodontal and mucosal trauma that can assist the professional in the diagnosis of this pathology. It is concluded that patients with bulimia nervosa disorder need a multidisciplinary treatment with doctors, nutritionists, psychologists and also with the dentist, so that, in addition to assisting in the diagnosis of patients with this syndrome, they can plan and execute the treatment rehabilitation of the oral cavity, improving the masticatory function and the quality of life of these patients. | en |
