This work is done at the intersection of communication and architecture as culture product. Architecture is the object of study: the ornament in contemporary times; From communication comes the approach of this architectural element as a language sense producer. The corpus chosen for research are the ornaments present in corporate buildings of Faria Lima Avenue in Sao Paulo. The ornament in this work will be understood as the aesthetic expression of the building, involving from the coating to the overall shape of its construction. This ornament definition, as well as the classification that we will use in choosing the buildings to be analyzed will be made based on Moussavi and Kubo (2008). This classification is a function of the degree of ornament depth degree in relation to construction, as follows: shape, structure, fabric, and the surface. The overall goal will be to understand how contemporary architecture dialogues with culture from its ornaments, helping to build an image and an imaginary within a given context. To address the relationship between city and communication, as well as the image of concepts and imagery in cities, we will seek scholars like Ferrara (2000) and Lynch (1996), which will work environmental perception of the city in the end of the nineteenth century and in the twentieth century. To understand the relationship between ornament and architecture, we will work with authors as Sá (2005), Moussavi and Kubo (2008), Munari (2008) and Venturi (1977), understanding that the essence of this relationship is the principles of composition and rhythm, symmetry, texture, modulation, among others. We will work out at this stage three important historical moments in our study object: the classical, modern and contemporary ornament. For the analysis methodology of the ornaments found in the corporative buildings of Faria Lima, we will make use of Pierce's semiotics (2003) to be applied in reading the city and its architecture sustained by Santaella (1996, 2002) and Ferrara (1998,1999,2000 , 2009). For cultural analysis of post-modern and contemporary city, we will support in authors dealing with this subject as Harvey (1992), Jameson (2006) and Montaner (2000, 2009). This study is relevant to the communication / cultural studies related to the city, aiding the understanding that architecture creates social meanings beyond their practical functions, being an expression of society, and thus, the environment in which it operates.por
